Loona
About
Italian classics with a modern twist, focusing on pizza and pasta dough, and a wood-fired oven named Loona.
Loona – a large, handcrafted wood-fired oven that has given its name to the entire restaurant. At the old family workshop in Castile, founded in the late 19th century, each oven is given a name. This one was named Loona, and it traveled to Russia, settling in an old mansion on Tverskaya Boulevard long before it acquired its current style and character. It literally inspired the creators to "dance around the oven."
However, the trio of creators would be betraying their own principles if their ironic perspective didn't shine through in the forms and details. For example, a huge window that spans the entire wall "reflects" onto the ceiling, creating a mirrored image of the dining room. Or, a tiramisu, spread across the plate, suddenly reveals a thick layer of ladyfingers. And, most importantly, the pizza takes center stage in the healthy lifestyle movement, completely abandoning the traditional dough. A new signature recipe by Vitaly Istomin and Artem Losev – made with cauliflower, almond flour, and Parmesan – has the same crispy crust, but without any guilt. The simplest and most straightforward dishes created by Losev, Istomin, and Loona's head chef, Dmitry Denisov, are truly memorable.
Loona can be many things. The interior on the first floor, designed by Irina Glik and the design bureau "Geometria," begins with a lush green garden, in the shade of which tables are placed – as if the entire family has been brought from the house into the yard, to now invite relatives, friends, and acquaintances to join them. The second floor is completely different, elegant and even a little formal – here, you can feel the luxury of the classic mansion with its moldings and columns, skillfully framed by modern oak paneling and futuristic lighting. And a table for two on the balcony is the perfect place for secret confessions and dramatic gestures. Between the floors, there's a staircase that, ironically, resembles a glowing moonlit path, connecting the democratic and romantic sides of Loona into a unique image.
