About
A gastronomic project where the cuisine is based on three "A"s: authorial, adapted, and Asian, with the main principle of the establishment being: "a democratic pan-Asian restaurant, dreaming of becoming haute cuisine when it grows up."
Joon Asiain Restaurant & Bar is a democratic pan-Asian restaurant, dreaming of becoming haute cuisine. Kirill Levin, the driving force behind the project, launched his first restaurant with a focus on the everyday appeal and accessibility of authorial cuisine. Chef Alexander Demkov shares this vision and has previously worked at Kim and Chi, Caffe Italia in St. Petersburg, and Cutfish and Lila Asia in Moscow. The food is simple, but the use of sauces and spices infuses each dish with an unmistakable Asian flavor. Here, "kusiyaki" – mini skewers – are grilled on a robata grill, and the bao buns are presented in an unexpected geometric shape – a square. The dominant idea is a readily accessible Asia that will be understandable to everyone. For example, vegetarians will appreciate the carrot hummus with beetroot chips, while those looking for something more substantial will enjoy the Bavet steak with pepper sauce or duck breast with cherry Tonkatsu and roasted sweet potatoes. For those who aren't particularly hungry, there's a delicate tartare or a green salad with orange and a miso dressing. For the more adventurous, there are scallops katsu with apple or halibut steak with confit leek and a ponzu emulsion. The bar menu at Joon features authorial teas, lemonades, and cocktails that complement the main concept. The personalized system allows guests to create their own custom drinks. Popular choices include the refreshing and exquisite blackberry with yuzu, and for those who want to fully immerse themselves in Asia, there's a lemonade made with coconut milk, lime, and chili – you won't find anything like it in Moscow. The cocktail list is worth exploring: "hitotsu," "futatsu," "mitsu," and so on, up to ten. The cocktail names are Japanese numerals: try one, and you'll learn them. For example, "yotsu" (fourth) features rum, grilled pineapple, homemade Galliano, calamansi, and lemongrass, while "to" (tenth) is a playful gin cocktail with strawberry, bubble gum, lemon, and soda. The wine list was curated under the guidance of Vladlena Lesnichenko, a wine expert in Moscow. The interior design balances simplicity and contrast. Designer Gayane Oganesyanz focused on graphic patterns, pleasant textures, and vibrant color accents. The minimalist eclecticism and delicate harmony create the perfect atmosphere to become your favorite place on one of Moscow's oldest streets. Answers to frequently asked questions: Why JOON? The name of the restaurant comes from a play on the English word "Junior" and the Korean name Joon. It's Kirill Levin's first and "young" project, where he and chef Alexander Demkov are creating a democratic pan-Asian restaurant. What kind of cuisine? The Asian cuisine at Joon is a blend of gastronomic knowledge from across Asia, adapted in a logical and accessible way for Muscovites. Who is our guest? Joon Asiain Restaurant & Bar welcomes not only those seeking a unique blend of multiculturalism and are ready for culinary experiments, but also those who want to discover the aesthetic pan-Asian cuisine every day.
