TSENZURA IN1:1
About
"Cenzura IN1:1" is a conceptually new establishment in a "to go" format. The coffee shop's concept is based on Russian culture and traditions, a synthesis of modernity and aristocratic Russia. Our menu is often described as unusual or atypical for a Moscow coffee shop, and this is due to the Russian cuisine, but presented in an original way. "Lomot i Buter" (a play on words, roughly translating to "slice and sandwich") is our take on burgers and sandwiches. The most substantial items on the menu are served on soft, crusty potato bread. By looking at classic Russian drinks from a different perspective, we created the "Simple Cocktails" section. Here you can find sbiten (a traditional Russian drink), compote, and kissel (a fruit jelly dessert) in unexpected combinations, even for themselves. The "Coffee Cocktails" will surprise even the most avid coffee lovers. Here, coffee is deconstructed, butter is added to the bumble (a type of coffee drink), and white mushrooms and Parmesan are added to the raf (another coffee drink). If you want something simple and familiar, try the teas we import from Krasnodar. They still retain the aroma of the fields and the warmth of the hot sun. Or try the "Tea Cocktails" with the addition of berries and herbs. Only Russian-language music is played in our establishment, including neoclassical music composed by Russian authors. We showcase lesser-known local brands that create amazing, talented, and interesting products. We host conversation clubs (literary, historical, and French), all united by the theme of pre-revolutionary Russia. We also love to celebrate the birthdays of poets and writers, featuring their favorite dishes on the menu. We are located on Triumfalnaya Square, and our neighbor is Vladimir Mayakovsky. Therefore, when talking about Russian culture and traditions (which we love with all our hearts), we pay great attention to literature. Initially, we built the concept on contrasts and antitheses, for example, a small space that is always "to go," but with quite substantial takeaway dishes (such as braised beef in wine). The name "Cenzura" and the reference "IN1:1" are already a contradiction, as it refers to the New Testament phrase "In the beginning was the Word" (+ the Gospels, as we know, were the basis for plots and images in Russian literature). The font is a reference to the building of "Izvestia" on Pushkinskaya Street (one of the main censors at one time); this building was built on the site of "The House of Famov," which was demolished. There is also a panel with an excerpt from Yevgeny Zamyatin's "We" (he was one of the first to be subjected to Soviet censorship and who circumvented it by publishing in another language). Only Russian-language music and ingredients in the drinks – everything has a small story. We live with our own character, a little daring, a little contradictory, but leaving a mark on people's hearts, so above the entrance to the coffee shop, there is a sign that says "Coffee with a Russian character."
