About

The legendary Indian restaurant Tandoor, with a history spanning over three decades since its founding in St. Petersburg, is expanding its reach and opening a new location in Moscow. Dhiraj Pratap, the visionary and creator of the project, aims to bring the authentic flavors and traditional Indian hospitality to the capital. The new restaurant, located on Oruzheyniy Lane, promises its guests a vibrant experience, immersing them in the atmosphere of India with its rich aromas and a symphony of flavors.

A Synthesis of Tradition and Modernity The Tandoor restaurant in Moscow carefully preserves the best traditions of Indian culture, harmoniously blending them with a modern approach to design and hospitality. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a statue of Ganesha, the god of wisdom and prosperity, where it is customary to leave a coin for good luck. AI-generated images of Indian gods and heroes, presented in a modern and unexpected style, complement the meticulously hand-painted murals on the walls and ceiling. Nearly every decorative element was personally selected by Dhiraj Pratap and brought from India. The interior, inspired by the aesthetics of Bollywood, features vibrant fabrics, intricate textures, and colorful decorative elements. The use of mango wood, carvings, copper, and bronze creates an atmosphere of luxury and warmth. National details, such as peacock feathers adorning the tables, symbolize prosperity and respect for each guest. The handcrafted wooden swings, imported directly from India along with much of the furniture, add to the authenticity. The interior design was created by Leonid Kolpakov, founder of Leon's Group, who successfully combined modern design with traditional Indian motifs.

National holidays are always special events here. Holi fills the room with colorful paints and dances, while Diwali is celebrated with the warm glow of candles. Guests are welcomed with traditional offerings and are not only invited to sample special dishes but also to participate in these celebrations – trying henna painting, joining the dance program, and learning more about India's centuries-old traditions. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the restaurant comes alive with DJ sets, while remaining true to its Indian roots. The sounds of the sitar and tabla, with their melodic and profound qualities, blend seamlessly with rhythmic beats, creating a mix of the mysterious East and the modern metropolis.

Menu: A Gastronomic Journey Through India The Tandoor menu is a true guide to the diverse flavors of India. Mahesh Singh, the restaurant's chef, along with his Indian team, recreates traditional dishes using recipes passed down from their great-grandmothers. The menu will soon expand to include 150 items. Guests can enjoy dishes such as the familiar Butter Chicken in a creamy tomato sauce, Mulligatawny lentil soup with coconut and aromatic herbs, Biryani made with premium basmati rice, slow-cooked lamb in a traditional onion sauce, fragrant Naan bread, a variety of chutneys, the signature Lemon Garlic Pron, and many other variations of curries. The menu is crafted with respect for Indian traditions and is based on authentic recipes from the northern regions of India, passed down through generations.

A key feature of the cuisine is the presence of two authentic clay tandoors – traditional ovens that give the restaurant its name, first opening in St. Petersburg in 1994.

Classic Indian desserts not only complement the flavors at the end of the meal but also serve as symbols of celebrations and festivities, reflecting deep cultural roots. Each dessert tells a story and even a legend.

The menu features traditional Indian beverages, including masala chai – a spicy milk tea flavored with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger – and several types of refreshing lassi. A selection of wines offers excellent enogastronomic pairings with the dishes, and connoisseurs can explore a range of strong Indian alcoholic beverages.

A special place in the restaurant is dedicated to the bar, which offers guests signature cocktails. "Moonlight," "Fiery Masala," and "Chakra Spark" – each of these names reflects the atmosphere of India, its mystery, and the richness of its flavors. The bar's design incorporates iridescent elements inspired by peacock feathers, adding a touch of magic to the space.

Tandoor is more than just a restaurant; it's a true expedition into the world of Indian culture. Here, in the heart of Moscow, guests can experience authentic traditions, savor the best dishes, and discover the true taste of India – the land of aromatic spices, exquisite teas, vibrant festivals, and the magic of Bollywood.
