Megobari

About

Georgian gastronomic classics, creative cocktails based on Georgian spirits, and a wine bar featuring a selection exclusively of Georgian wines (approximately 80 labels).

Moscow, Maroseyka Street, 15 Website Concept by: Giorgi Martiashvili "Restaurant Chef" on the project: This Georgian wine bar, brought to you by the Guliani Group (restaurants and culinary shops "Odjahuri," "Khinkali House," Kulinari, Mochi), has a concept so obvious that it's surprising no one thought of it before. Tbilisi has already embraced this concept and moved on, but in Moscow, no one has quite dared to focus solely on a wine list featuring exclusively Georgian wines – until now. The creators of Megobari deserve a medal simply for attempting this, and they plan to continue in the same vein, sourcing all the respectable Georgian wines available in Moscow. And this attempt deserves recognition, even though of the 70 items currently offered, most are good, but fairly standard, factory-produced wines, mostly basic rather than exceptional. However, this represents almost everything available through official distributors. The trendy Georgian biodynamic and natural wines popular in Australia and Japan are not imported here in significant quantities. On the other hand, the bar's selection leans towards "home-style" Georgian wines, as is common in other casual Georgian establishments, rather than products from the prestigious "chateaux" of Kakheti or Kartli. Considering all of this, even if not extraordinary, this is a completely Georgian wine list, which is a truly commendable achievement. The price per glass ranges from 280 to 500 rubles for something quite special, while bottles range from 1740 rubles for a simple but excellent Mtsvane from Marani to 9320 rubles for a more serious Saperavi from Badagoni. This wine list is also perfect for the signature Adjarian khachapuri, with various fillings in a thin-crust boat, made according to a recipe brought from a cafe on the funicular in Tbilisi by Tamaz Oragvelidze, and for his sweet cream-filled donuts (an orange Kahuri from Kindzmarauli Marani would be the perfect accompaniment). It also pairs well with the khinkali with chackapuli from the head khinkal maker at "Khinkali House" and "Odjahuri," Boris Giorgberidze (combining them with a delightful Rkatsiteli from the Arabesque winery allows you to enjoy far more than the usual four pieces that Muscovites typically consume, much to the amusement of Georgians), as well as with excellent kebabs, spicy and fresh pkhali, and all the other dishes that evoke the perfect vacation. The average bill is 1500 rubles.
