About
ALTRO BEEF BISTRO – a new restaurant project by Mikhail Sokolov and Timur Dmitriev (both from italy&co.), opened in mid-July 2024 on Medikov Avenue in St. Petersburg. Mikhail and Timur are known in their city (and beyond!) for creating beautiful and highly successful concepts, including Atelier tapas&bar, Bist MeatPasta Bar, Jam Cafe, Joli Grand Bistro, Juan Cantina Espanola, Salone pasta&bar, and others.
This time, the team presents Altro beef bistro – a modern bistro with a focus on meat dishes. "Altro" translates from Italian as "other," emphasizing the bistro's difference from the previous establishment at this location, HITCH.
Leading the kitchen is Sergey Galcev, a talented chef and a rock star of the Juan Cantina Espanola project in the Mjasnikov Mansion courtyard and Giusto Bistro on Dobrolyubova Street. Guests have already come to love Sergey for his ability to create unconventional dishes, particularly his expertise in working with meat and grilling. Chef Vladimir Poltoratsky embodies and translates these qualities.
Another key element of Altro beef bistro is the meat, which is cooked in a wood-fired oven and also aged in a dry-aging chamber.
In addition to steaks – from classic cuts to rare varieties – and meat specialties, such as diaphragm with mashed potatoes and beef bourguignon, there's a RAW section featuring tartares and carpaccio, as well as авторские interpretations of beloved dishes like BBQ ribs, juicy burgers (such as brie and truffle, or cheddar), and brisket tacos.
Where there's meat, there's always room for vegetables: be sure to check out the salad section. The vegetable salad, green salad, romaine lettuce with a five-herb dressing, and arugula with Parmesan are all excellent choices, complementing both meat dishes and serving as a great starter for lunch or dinner.
The menu also includes pizzas and pastas. This reflects the expertise inherited from other italy&co. projects, while maintaining a new concept – for example, pasta and ravioli with cheek meat, sausage, guanciale carbonara, and pasta with diaphragm.
Desserts from pastry chef Ivan Bobrov complement the menu and are sure to find a place in the hearts of guests: tres leches cake, photogenic brioche rum cakes, apricot pie, and the famous Paris-Brest.
The cocktails and overall atmosphere in the bar are overseen by Pavel Shirov, the bar manager of italy&co. restaurants. He has curated classic cocktails and developed unique variations that will be featured in the Altro twist section.
The interior design was created by Yulia Surova, a graduate of the Shigliitz Academy (Renaissance Construction, Yard). Now, on Medikov Street, you can find a cozy and stylish bistro atmosphere, where the warmth of noble wood, vintage furniture and tableware (which are loved here for their combination of beauty and history), and minimalist decor in the form of mirrors and textiles blend seamlessly. With the involvement of Viktor Melkov, the creative director of italy&co., and Vasilisa Soboleva, the operational director who brought a Moscow vibe to the project, the loft-style meat interior of the former Hitch was quickly transformed into a bistro in the modernist style, with a milky color scheme, dusty olive walls, and herringbone parquet flooring. Details include cast metal table bases, an antique buffet, and vintage chandeliers and sconces. The concept of Altro beef bistro is a new elegance for your favorite everyday restaurant.
