The Jib Door
About
The bar's atmosphere transports guests to 19th-century England, with the creators meticulously sourcing interior details from European auctions and flea markets.
The bar's entrance features a doorway from a church in the town of Grob, built in 1790. After the church was renovated, the original doors were replaced, and the old doors were sold at auction, eventually finding their way to this bar in Moscow. The mirrors are from a pub in Chesterfield, England, which opened in 1839 and closed in 2020, with its assets being sold at auction. The bar itself was brought from an antique shop in England. All the interior details are authentic antique items from the late Victorian era.
The menu at The Jib Door was developed by executive chef Alexei Klimenko, with a focus on Italian cuisine (Italian cheeses and appetizers, handmade pasta created on an antique machine, risotto, saltimbocca, and more) and modern comfort food (salmon tartare, crab with avocado, guacamole, a burger with truffle sauce, and more). The menu also features reinterpretations of recipes from 19th-century French, English, and Italian cookbooks.
The wine list, curated by Yuliana Grigorieva, co-founder of the wine center Wine People, is a highlight, featuring over 300 selections. It includes both familiar wines from Italy, France, and Spain, as well as more unusual selections from the Avant-Garde region.
A special feature is the cocktail menu, created by Dmitry Kalistov, known for his work at Brodo bar & Kitchen. It's a small but carefully curated selection, reflecting the eclectic styles of the late Victorian era. For example, the classic "Long Island Iced Tea" is served in a teapot. The "Mary Strawberry Balsamic" cocktail surprises with its strawberry aftertaste and a mozzarella ball, and it can also be enjoyed in a non-alcoholic version.
The cocktail menu consists of classic cocktails from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but they have been slightly adapted to modern tastes. The cocktail menu is divided into categories:
* Sweet & Tight: Textured dessert cocktails. All are sweet, except for the Ramoz Aviation, which is a mix of two cocktails and is almost not sweet, without a dessert-like texture. * Old Time: Cocktails with a classic presentation, without cream. These are all alcohol-based, except for the "Mary," which features an unusual combination of strawberry and balsamic vinegar. * Bubbles: Simply, cocktails with bubbles. * Perfect Serve: Cocktails with an authentic and original presentation. For example, the "Absinthe Fountain" is a presentation of absinthe from the late 19th century. Absinthe was traditionally prepared for the French bourgeoisie using a device like a fountain. "Uno Caffé, Uno Grappa" is an Italian combination of grappa and coffee, which offers an interesting interplay of flavors. The cocktail is designed to be consumed quickly. And the "Long Island" – in reality, this cocktail has a rich history and is not the typical 450 ml version served with cola. At The Jib Door, the "Long Island" is made with tea and served with pretzels and honey – quite different from what one might expect from the name "Long Island."
Menu excerpts: Salmon tartare (850 rubles), beef carpaccio (990 rubles), guacamole (490 rubles), green salad (690 rubles), spaghetti puttanesca (790 rubles), risotto with langoustines (1100 rubles), salmon with vegetable sauté (1450 rubles), saltimbocca (1390 rubles), burger with truffle sauce (870 rubles).
