As you make your way up the Whinlatter Pass, you will find this remote black and white inn that boasts some fabulous Lakeland views – best enjoyed from a seat in the conservatory. The cooking comes in the form of a tasting menu and makes use of Lake District produce, in well-conceived dishes that blend classical execution with modernity and invention, while highlighting a variety of flavours and textures. The ratte potato cooked in a yeast and Madeira sauce is a prime example of the kitchen's talents. It’s a cosy little place, with a range of bedrooms available if you wish to stay the night.
