About
One ascends through the lanes and alleyways of the historic centre to reach the hidden stone courtyard of chef-patron Danijel Đekić’s birthplace, at the foot of the magnificent church of St Euphemia, the symbol of Rovinj. Monte is a place steeped in memory and identity: born in 1985 as a family tavern, it has evolved over time into one of Croatia’s most celebrated fine dining restaurants. The cuisine, innovative yet profoundly rooted in the territory, celebrates the finest regional ingredients with contemporary sensitivity and great attention to seasonality. Two tasting menus are offered: Flora, entirely plant-based, and Fauna, which encompasses Adriatic fish and selected meats. It is also possible to compose a shorter menu of three or four courses, choosing freely from the dishes of both principal journeys. The wine offering is also excellent, extending beyond Champagne to dedicate considerable attention to Croatian production. A final note of praise is due to the service: professional, warm and particularly attentive to the needs of each guest.
