About

Gastropub in the heart of the city, where dishes and drinks tell the story of the region through the chef's table.

"History on a Plate" is a gastropub where taste becomes the language of the past, and each dinner becomes a journey through time. Located in the Königsberg Gastronomy Museum "Blockhaus," a historic 19th-century building in the heart of Kaliningrad, it combines a museum space with a modern gastronomic laboratory.

Concept: The project was created to tell the story of the Kaliningrad region through food. Here, the past comes to life in culinary traditions, aromas, and textures, and dishes become a way to learn about the region and its cultural code.

Creators: Elizabeth Mikhailova is a restaurateur and the creator of the project, the head chef of the OBLAKA restaurant in Zelenogradsk, which won the regional restaurant award "Pumpernickel" in the "Best Seaside Restaurant" category in 2024. Inspired by the cultural and gastronomic heritage of the region, Elizabeth initiated the "History on a Plate" premium dining experience, which was first held in the spring of 2024. This experience became the starting point for creating a gastropub at the "Blockhaus" museum. Elizabeth believes that history can be told through taste – beautifully, intelligently, and stylishly. Her projects combine aesthetics, local identity, and a modern approach to hospitality.

Chef Vyacheslav Vyunik is one of the prominent figures in the Kaliningrad gastronomic scene, a participant and winner of federal culinary projects such as "Hell's Kitchen" and "Young Blades." In 2025, Vyacheslav completed an internship in Spain at a Michelin-starred restaurant, where he deepened his knowledge of modern gastronomy and expanded his authorial approach to presenting dishes, combining technique with an emotional narrative in every plate. His cuisine is an exploration of Baltic flavors: a combination of local ingredients, traditional techniques, and authorial solutions. Vyacheslav is constantly learning, inspiring his team, and developing a culture of creativity in the kitchen.

Concept Chef Svetlana Kolbanova is a certified historian and researcher of the culinary heritage of East Prussia. She works with archival materials, old recipes, and translations of historical sources, helping to adapt them for modern guests. Svetlana hosts themed dinners and tours, turning meals into an intellectual journey.

Cuisine and Products: The menu is based on local, seasonal products grown and produced in the Kaliningrad region. We cooperate with farmers and artisans of the region: • Fish and seafood – from the Baltic Sea and freshwater bodies of the region; • Vegetables, herbs, and berries – from private organic farms; • Dairy products and cheeses – from local cheesemakers; • Meat and poultry – from trusted farmers, raised without artificial additives. Each dish is accompanied by a mini-description of the origin of the ingredients, and the chef's table format allows you to observe the cooking process and communicate directly with the chefs.

Menu: The menu features dishes inspired by the flavors of the Kaliningrad region: • Baltic sprats with potatoes and sturgeon caviar • Stroganina with marinated fennel and sea buckthorn • Sudak (fish) with a Baltic ham sauce • Eel with mint peas • Venison with young vegetables • Duck with cherries and beetroot • Klopсы (meatballs) with a smoked carp sauce • Foie gras with red wine jelly • Cheeses from Kaliningrad farmers • Marzipan with pear • Flounder with Baltic rose The menu is updated every 2-3 months depending on the season and harvest, reflecting the natural rhythm of the region.

Dinners and Events: Every Friday and Saturday, "Chef's Table with History" dinners are held – gastronomic performances where the chef and historian guide guests through different eras, telling about the traditions of the region and culinary discoveries. The gastropub also hosts authorial pop-up dinners, gastronomic weeks, and collaborations with chefs from all over Russia, combining traditions and modern techniques.

Catering and Collaboration: "History on a Plate" develops a premium catering service – from intimate private dinners to large-scale cultural events. The gastropub team has created gastronomic concepts for the Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of the World Ocean, the Kaliningrad Drama Theater, and other iconic venues in the region. Each project is a personalized event with the history, taste, and aesthetics of Kaliningrad.

"History on a Plate" is a cultural space where taste becomes a guide through time, and dinner is a form of art. Here, the history of the Kaliningrad region comes to life in every detail: from local products to the author's presentation, from museum artifacts to conversations around a shared table.
