Eliso bistro
About
A Georgian-inspired bistro.
In Georgian, "Eliso" means "one who brings abundance." For the Georgian bistro Eliso, abundance means generosity of the moment, a richness of impressions, flavors, and emotions. The bright, festive interior of the bistro was created by the design duo of Irina Krivtsova and Tatiana Redina. Georgia, as seen through their eyes, is reflected in the soft texture of the walls, as if molded by hand, the accent lighting from ceramic amphorae, and the frieze above the bar that resembles the delicate carvings of Tbilisi balconies. A traditional Georgian ornament, based on the motif of a flowering grapevine, forms the basis of the paintings on the arches of the tall windows, while a vibrant painting depicting a beautiful woman with juicy oranges in her hands has become the bistro's signature. Comfortable sofas and armchairs, beautiful dark wood tabletops, and tables with white tablecloths – there's a cozy corner here for every mood.
The bistro's menu is designed as if Georgia and Europe have arranged a meeting at Eliso, so that beloved dishes from Georgian cuisine can be introduced to the bestsellers of European cuisine. It starts with a selection of mezes. Spicy muhammara, refreshing tzatziki, silky labneh, and textured hummus with chickpeas are served with fresh, crispy puri bread. A set of pkhali made with beets, beans, walnuts, and spinach is a harmonious pairing with salmon tartare, and a salad with sea bass unexpectedly complements the juicy adjapsandali. Shrimp satsivi is an original choice for those who want to discover new variations on a familiar theme, while the familiar Adjarian khachapuri, topped with squares of butter, will bring a touch of homey warmth and comfort to even the busiest day.
Khinkali is a special dish for Georgians. And at Eliso, it has its own dedicated section. The classic khinkali here are made with beef, but there's also a version with lamb, as well as a "new wave" khinkali with salmon, and mini-khinkali with beef in a pepper sauce. You should eat them while they're hot, putting aside all table talk. Khinkali don't like to be kept waiting.
The main courses begin with soups. Children can enjoy chicken noodle soup, while men can choose the hearty kharcho. Next are dishes like chkmeruli, with pieces of crispy, golden-fried chicken in a delicate cream and garlic sauce, odjahuri, fried potatoes with beef (a portion of which, according to the name – "odjahuri" means "family" in Georgian – can be shared with the whole family), chanahi, slow-cooked lamb with vegetables, chashushuli with beef, and other chicken dishes. True masterpieces include lamb chops, fragrant with meadow herbs, and a Napoleon made with strip loin, where thinly sliced steak is layered with almost weightless layers of fat.
A special highlight of any meal is dessert. At Eliso, you'll start thinking about sweets as soon as you walk in, because right at the entrance, you'll be greeted by a display case filled with the sweets that the local cuisine is proud of. A lemon curd tart with a delicate aroma of fresh zest, a cheesecake with ripe figs, and classic baklava – don't deny yourself anything!
