There are several reasons why this restaurant run by the partnership of Maximilian Strohe and Ilona Scholl is so sought-after. First, they have created an attractive interior within this lovely old Kreuzberg building – featuring high stuccoed ceilings, wooden floors, art and quirky wallpaper – not to mention the charming terrace set in the heart of the neighbourhood. Then there is the relaxed yet highly professional service under the direction of Ilona Scholl – the team's constant presence and remarkable enthusiasm create a warm and informal atmosphere. At the core of its success, however, is the food. The chef-patron and his team create striking combinations of exceptional ingredients, with the interplay between delicate and intensely powerful flavours proving truly extraordinary. "Arctic char & veal tongue, horseradish cream & pumpkin seed oil" and "carabinero prawn & gochujang, edamame, octopus & candied ginger" are genuine highlights. Diners can choose between an "omnivore" and vegetarian eight-course set menu, with up to three optional extra courses. You can also dine at the counter.
