In Gragnano, La Tortuga has been synonymous with quality and reliability for decades. The dining room, intimate and romantic in atmosphere, is made all the more agreeable by the welcoming manner of Signora Orietta, professional yet pleasingly informal, and a discerning judge of wine: the list bears eloquent testimony to this, with some interesting labels also in vintages. The kitchen delivers a reassuring and accomplished repertoire, built upon excellent produce, from lake fish – as in the very successful spaghettini with lake ragù – to the finest of sea fish. Among the dishes that drew particular admiration from our Inspectors, the fillet of sea bass stands out, cooked with precision and set alongside a raw prawn marinated in liquorice, resting upon a delicate fennel broth and potato cream: a great classic, interpreted with restraint and elegance.
