King Pong
About
In the heart of Baku, on Zarifa Aliyeva Street, the King Pong restaurant is opening its doors. This is the first international project from restaurateur Mikhail Georgievsky, a familiar name to audiences in St. Petersburg, featuring Pan-Asian cuisine.
For King Pong, this is an important and natural step beyond St. Petersburg. The project, which has largely shaped the perception of modern Asian cuisine in the city on the Neva River, is entering a new market: Baku, a dynamic, open, and gastronomically curious city. This is a city where interest in international formats is growing alongside the pace of life, and where cuisine is increasingly becoming a part of cultural dialogue.
Concept King Pong Baku is a Pan-Asian restaurant that brings together vibrant and recognizable dishes from Southeast Asia, with minimal adaptation to local tastes. Here, they consciously avoid simplification and homogenization: the cuisine focuses on richness, spices, and textures, preserving the character of the original King Pong. The menu features dishes from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Japan, as well as signature dishes familiar to guests of the St. Petersburg King Pong. It's a portrait of Asia, composed of the most expressive motifs of the region: a cuisine that is understandable from the first bite, but requires precision and attention to detail.
Menu The culinary aspect of the project is overseen by Executive Chef Pavel Mitrofansky, who is responsible for King Pong and Pong in St. Petersburg. In Baku, he is assisted by Ruslan Ismailov, who previously worked with the team at the Moscow restaurant White Rabbit, a Michelin-starred establishment. Among the dishes that the team recommends trying first are Hong Kong-style duck (2500 rubles / 55 AZN), which has become a signature dish of the project, dorado with vegetables in lemongrass sauce (1685 rubles / 37 AZN), a Thai salad with roast beef and pickled cucumbers (910 rubles / 20 AZN), and a crispy roll with leek chips, salmon, and flying fish roe (1230 rubles / 27 AZN). This is a cuisine built on contrasts, precision, and mastery in achieving the umami flavor, which is why guests come to an Asian restaurant.
Space King Pong Baku occupies 250 square meters, with space for 77 guests, making it easy to linger longer than planned. The interior, designed by the architectural firm of Igor Sushkov, is conducive to leisurely dinners, conversations, and evenings that you won't want to end. The space features natural materials, and the combination of wood and stone creates a feeling of tropical jungle, seamlessly integrated into the heart of Baku. Asian motifs are present in the details: warm bamboo lighting, ornaments on the ceiling, and artifacts found around the world. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the room with light and bring the city inside, making it part of the interior, while the bar area is a natural gathering place – a place to start the evening or linger after dinner. On weekends, the restaurant will feature DJ sets, while on weekdays, a relaxed Asian lounge atmosphere prevails.
International Expansion The opening of King Pong in Baku is not only the launch of a new restaurant, but also a logical development of the project. The team is betting on a recognizable concept, a strong cuisine, and experience that has been proven over time in St. Petersburg, adapting it to the energetic and multifaceted rhythm of Baku – one of the fastest-growing centers in the East. The location for King Pong was a deliberate choice. The restaurant is located in the central part of Baku, surrounded by the city's business and social life.
As the project creator, restaurateur Mikhail Georgievsky, says: "Baku is a vibrant, unique, and very lively city. There is a sense of interest in the world, in new tastes, and formats. We see how the gastronomic culture is growing, and we are happy to be a part of this movement. King Pong has long and confidently established its niche in St. Petersburg, and now we are interested in building this dialogue with Baku – through the cuisine of Southeast Asia, which we know and love."
