About

The new establishment on Zabelina Street, called Chow Chow, brings together dishes from Southeast Asia under one roof, primarily Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese, mostly falling into the "comfort food" category.

The Chow Chow restaurant offers a diverse range of Southeast Asian cuisine, with a focus on Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes, largely categorized as comfort food. The bar complements this variety with classic cocktails and innovative interpretations. The name "Chow Chow" itself combines several words and meanings. In China, which forms the foundation of Asian culinary culture, there are two types of noodles, Chow Mein and Chow Fan, typically made with beef or chicken. In English slang, "Chow" means "food."

The restaurant has two floors. The first floor features an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare the dishes from scratch. The Pan-Asian comfort food menu was developed by Chef Vladimir Zhbannikov. The menu is relatively small, but plans include regular updates and themed specials. Salads include crispy duck with lychee and pear (450 rubles), "Yam Som O" with shrimp and grapefruit (550 rubles), and pickled cucumbers (240 rubles). For appetizers, the chef recommends crystal dim sum with sea bass (450 rubles) or with beef (430 rubles). By the way, the dim sum is prepared by Chinese chefs, while the Vietnamese dishes, including the popular Pho Bo, are overseen by Bui Thi Vinh (chef at Pho Point).

Rice, noodles, and soups make up the second main part of the menu. The chef recommends noodles with chicken in a peanut sauce (390 rubles), Pad Thai with shrimp (595 rubles), Chow Mein with beef (590 rubles), or rice with chicken (420 rubles). From the hot dishes, you can choose beef in a pepper sauce (650 rubles), sea bass with yellow curry (630 rubles), and pork in a sweet and sour sauce (470 rubles).

The second floor offers a more comfortable setting with a soft sofa along the wall and a bar counter. Edwin Bjarugaba (Solyanka, Swan Lake, Simachev, Michelada) is in charge of the bar.

The bar menu focuses on variations of classics: Lemongrass Collins, Breakfast Martini, Clitoria Sour – made with gin and a clitoria tincture, giving the cocktail a delicate purple hue; Spicy Watermelon Cooler – made with vodka, watermelon, and chili (all cocktails are 550 rubles).

The design was created by Valery Patkonen and Darya Vasilyeva (Patkonen studio): "The perception of modern Asia is conveyed through archetypes of Asian nature and mythology: 'dragon scales' – a texture used in the decoration of the columns and the bar counter, wallpaper with a natural print, functional furniture in slightly playful colors, and a yellow, translucent haze, plus lighting with exaggerated biomorphic shapes made from recycled materials."

In addition, Chow Chow has a veranda facing Zabelina Street, and another, larger veranda with a bar in the courtyard, which is planned to open in the spring of 2023.

On Fridays and Saturdays, a DJ plays in the evenings, and parties are held.
