What we particularly like about Magoga is its young, modest yet professional team with clear ideas and a desire to serve the best cuisine possible. We could easily talk about the duo of chef María Gómez and her husband Adrián de Marcos (sommelier and front of house manager); however, what is most striking here is the sensation of balance and harmony in cuisine which they describe as “an embrace between the sea and the land”. What you will find, both on the à la carte and its tasting menus (Hábitat and Ánima, each with their own wine-pairing option), is contemporary cooking with touches of elegance that always seeks to explore the roots of Cartagena’s recipes while showcasing locally sourced ingredients. These include fish and seafood from the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor lagoon, fruit and vegetables from around Cartagena, and Calasparra rice. One particularly memorable dish that came as a wonderful surprise was the combination of artichoke, smoked eel and foie gras.
